About Our Workshop Artist:
Radha Lakshmi “A child of Southern India, born and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. I am a visual artist. I chose the name “radartist.com” for my website because the first three letters of my first name blend with the contemporary concept of “rad,” which defines my personality. During the 1990s, “rad” represented an excellent counter-culture. Ever since I can remember, I have been a kind of “rad” person who is boldly explorative and unconventional. This blog is a visual journey of my work, explorations, and way of giving back to the community. I am a trained printmaker who received her Bachelor of Fine Art from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and a Master of Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Over time, I have naturally progressed to be a ritual performance artist combining my training in printmaking with my cultural roots. In particular, my work draws inspiration from the ‘kolam’ and ‘mandala,’ traditional ritual art forms that women draw at the thresholds of homes in South India. My work spans several dimensions- printmaking, painting, community art, and cooking as a storytelling medium. The things I create emerge from all my strengths and joys, and it touches everyone who comes in contact with it.
